What is ferrochrome What are the advantages of ferrochrome

What is ferrochrome?

Ferrochrome (FeCr) is an alloy of chromium and iron containing between 50% and 70% chromium.Over 80% of the world's ferrochrome is utilised in the production of stainless steel.  According to carbon content, it can be divided into:High carbon ferrochrome/HCFeCr(C:4%-8%),Medium carbon ferro chrome/MCFeCr(C:1%-4%),

Low carbon ferrochrome/LCFeCr(C:0.25%-0.5%),Micro carbon ferrochrome/MCFeCr:(C:0.03-0.15%).

What are the advantages of ferrochrome?

1. Ferro chrome has the advantage of increasing steel oxidation resistance in the process of steelmaking.

In the steelmaking process into the ferrochrome can effectively increase the oxidation resistance of steel, the chromium element in the ferrochrome can effectively protect the steel, so that its oxidation rate slows down to increase the oxidation resistance of steel, has the advantage of improving the service life of steel;

2,Adding the proportion of ferrochrome into the molten steel has the advantage of effectively improving the corrosion resistance of the steel

In the process of steelmaking, adding a certain amount of ferrochrome in proportion to the content of elements in molten steel can effectively improve the corrosion resistance of steel. The chromium element in ferrochrome can be effectively attached to the surface of steel to provide a layer of insulation, thus having the advantage of corrosion resistance

3. Ferrochrome has the advantages of effectively improving the hardness and wear resistance of steel

Now the steelmaking process is generally put in ferrochrome, the main reason is because ferrochrome can effectively improve the hardness and wear resistance of steel, the chromium element in ferrochrome is not easy to combine with oxygen, so it can effectively improve the ability of steel oxidation resistance, in addition, ferrochrome can also purify steel impurities to improve the hardness of steel.

Application of ferrochrome

①Utilised in the production of stainless steel, Stainless steel depends on chromium for its appearance and resistance to corrosion.

②As the main alloy additive in steelmaking

③As indispensable additive in the process of low carbon steel smelting
